Coaching Philosophy
I strongly believe in developing team skills through individual skills. I believe in providing a high quality hockey experience for the player and the player’s family. I stress team play, hockey skills and sportsmanship.
I believe in high tempo practices and high tempo drills that simulate game situations. I have a very advanced summer dry-land training program, which will prepare the player for when they hit the ice. It focuses on foot speed and quickness, lower body strength and power, abdominal strength as well as “soft hands”. When the players take the ice, the team can focus on hockey related skills and systems.
I do not focus on wins and loses. I focus on the things that get us there. In other words, I focus on proper preparation, i.e. eating properly, sleeping properly and practicing properly. I believe, if you prepare yourself in every aspect of the game, you will win more games than you lose. I feel that losing to a better team is not bad, but I do not accept losing because of not trying hard. I can accept losing but I can not accept not trying.
I believe in team rules and team discipline before, during and after games and practices. I also believe that the team should have a lot of fun together. Every player wants to have fun and a sense of enjoyment from hockey, but they also want to be taught and challenged.
A team that is well disciplined will learn more, play better and have more fun.
